3.Ludus (playful love)

Ludus is the Latin word for ‘game’. As a love-type, it is seen as the opposite of Storge. It is non-committal, playful and sees love as a game. People of such love tendencies are like children in a playground, whose primary objective for being there is to play. They are not seeking to strike any meaningful relationship with other children that they may meet in the playground, but everything starts and ends in that moment.

It is not uncommon to find that some people can have more than one relationship at any given time, without any sense of attachment to any of the partners. Ludic love is flirtatious, and seeks only momentary sexual satisfaction. It is the love-kind that is most likely to commit adultery in marriage because its predominant interest is fun and nothing more. Hence, people of this inclination will see marriage as a trap – especially if their spouse is predominantly the storge love-type.

Evidence suggests that ludic lovers can easily become sexual addicts at the extreme. This is usually because of the ‘game mentality’ of love that they have. By nature, they tend to deliberately detach their true feelings and emotions from their partners, which could be linked to their fear of commitment. They will always want to have an advantage over their partner as long as they get the usual thrill from their ‘game of love’. If, per chance, they sense that they are developing serious feelings or intimacy for their partner, they are quickly out of the door because this to them is a sign of vulnerability, so they will run off to find another fellow to begin a new ‘game of love’.

Some ludic lovers have been known to transition into committed relationships, but in general, ludus love is wary of seriousness (suspicious and distrustful of seriousness) in a relationship or marriage. It just wants to have fun with no strings attached!
